The wind turbines that are used today are much more evolved and harness the wind’s kinetic energy to convert into electricity. Most wind turbines have three blades atop a tubular tower and come in various sizes. Importance of Wind Power Wind power, also called wind energy, is important because of its potential to supply electricity across the entire world. Wind power does not require fuel in processing plants; the energy is generated through the wind. Wind is free so the costs are kept low. Wind does not need to be transported or mined in order to create electricity. Advantages of Wind Power Wind power has a huge potential for supplying massive amounts of energy. The advantages are great and here are the top seven:
Disadvantages of Wind Power Although wind power sounds idyllic and is the answer everyone has been seeking, there are numerous disadvantages of wind power. Here are six major downfalls: 1. Wind strength is never consistent. It can vary from non-existent to gale force. The wind turbines are not able to produce steady amounts of electricity all the time. 2. While many people like the look of wind farms, there are many more who feel that the countryside should be left unmarred. 3. The noise levels of wind turbines are high. Each one is able to generate the same noise level of a car traveling 70 mph. 4. Many people feel that the aesthetic looks of the wind turbine are unsightly and should not be built near cities and towns. 5. During the manufacturing process, greenhouse gases are emitted into the atmosphere. 6. Large wind farms are needed to generate enough electricity for an entire community. Therefore it takes a large amount of space to house all these wind turbines.
